Devony Baugh, Masters Student Counsellor

Graduate Intern in Burnaby, BC

The Shanti Counselling Centre is pleased to welcome Devony Baugh, our graduate intern from The Adler School of Professional Psychology.
Devony is a mature student from the Adler School of Professional Psychology.  She is excited to be at the Shanti Counselling Centre as an intern to complete her practicum.  She is married with two boys ages 9 and 13 and balances life between interning, course work, and co-parenting.  These elements keeps life busy but fulfilling.

Devony takes a person-centred approach to counselling, seeing all people as innately valuable, as the experts of their own lives, and as having an internal drive toward growth and health.  She also recognizes the profound impact of family and environmental factors on how people live and how they see themselves and the world.

In the future Devony hopes to focus her work on children and youth who struggle with emotional, social and/or behavioural challenges, along with their family members.  She firmly believes that children do well if they can… and if they are not doing well, it is because there is something in their lives impairing their ability to thrive.  She aims to facilitate stability, growth, harmony, functionality, and contentment with each she works with.

Given these goals, she hopes to gain expertise at the Shanti Centre in working with a wide variety of people with their unique challenges.  These may include but are not limited to:

* Family of origin issues
* Family therapy
* Working with adolescents and teens
* Addiction work
* Grief and loss counselling
* Couples therapy
* Exploring the meaning of life
* Parenting strategies
* Exploring sexuality
* Generally finding contentment with your authentic self
