Registered Clinical Counsellor
In Burnaby and Vancouver, BC
The Shanti Counselling Centre welcomes Douglas Ozier as a clinical associate.
Douglas is a Registered Clinical Counsellor and has been practicing the art of counselling for the past eight years. He has a PhD in Counselling Psychology from the University of Alberta and a Masters in Counselling Psychology from UBC.
As a counsellor, Douglas has successfully helped many people to heal from the following kinds of emotional pain:
- experiencing consistent feelings of low mood
- always feeling stressed out or “on edge”
- having trouble finding a sense of direction or purpose
- allowing self-doubt to hold them back from getting what they want in life
- beating themselves up for never being good enough
- feeling lonely, cut off, or dissatisfied with their relationships
- struggling to resolve a specific issue
Douglas brings warmth, empathy, and thoughtfulness to his work with clients. He adapts his counselling approach to the unique needs and preferences of each individual client. However, the basis of Douglas’s approach is always his belief that people are capable of healing when they are offered a supportive environment in which to do so. Douglas finds that he is most helpful to clients who:
- really value being listened to in a heart centered, authentic way
- are seeking an experienced guide who can work with them in a collaborative way; working together to clarify their goals, and then to generate solutions that will move them toward those goals
- are open, only when it feels right for them, to learning one of the some of the many coping skills that Douglas can offer to share (such a relaxation skills, meditation skills, problem solving, and assertiveness)
In his spare time, Douglas enjoys spending time with friends and family, walking in nature, and trying to keep up with his beloved Wheaton Terrier.
Douglas sees individual adult clients on Monday afternoons and evenings at an office in the Commercial Drive area, in Vancouver. He would love the chance to meet with you for a free 30-minute consultation to see if he might be able to help.
